I had the opportunity to work on the launch of the new ATK Kids subscription box: the Preschool Chef’s Club. Every month, young chefs receive a box with recipes, activities, games, stickers, and crafts. As associate art director, I designed and illustrated all content according to every box theme. While these boxes needed to feel aligned with our existing box line, the Young Chef’s Club, it was important for them to have a distinct visual identity that reflected the new target audience.

The backbone of our brand is getting kids involved in the kitchen. Each box contains 2-6 panel recipe cards that preschoolers (with a little parental guidance) can enjoy.

Our cards use our set color palette in eye-catching combinations. Because our target audience is comprised of pre-readers, each step is accompanied by a clear, descriptive photo. These photos also utilize our color palette in backdrops and surfaces for a monochrome, coordinated palette that lets the hands and ingredients stand out.

“Cluck, Cluck, Match” is a card matching game. This game was designed to aid in visual memory training, by encouraging kids to identify which cards match and to remember their location in the grid of cards. It was a fun challenge translating different types of chickens into playful illustrations. I focused on taking real traits from the birds while still keeping the illustrations cute and engaging.

Along with designing and illustrating the box content, I art direct our marketing photoshoots to promote each box. I create content shared across social media for every theme.
