PRESCHOOL CHEF’S CLUB STORYBOOKS

Timeline : June 2021 - June 2022

Role : Illustrator, Designer, Art Director

Photography by Kevin White

I began working with America’s Test Kitchen Kids on the Preschool Chef’s Club in June of 2021. Every PCC Box contains a storybook, written by Chad Chenail, that I illustrated based on the box theme. Featuring our core characters, each book is fun, colorful, and teaches a lesson through storytelling. Every month brings a new box theme, from colors, to cupcakes, to life on the farm. I developed the full visual identity of the books, from art direction to the design and illustrations for each story.

These five characters star in every storybook, and appear throughout the subscription box. Our team developed personalities and backstories for every character. I had the challenge of communicating their qualities visually while also keeping them friendly and adaptable.

After several rounds, we landed on the objects, colors, and style.

The Fork Family Farm is the storybook for our “On the Farm” box.

Tiny can’t WAIT to show his friends all around the Fork Family Farm. He is so excited for them to learn all about how farms work, the animals they take care of, and the different fruits and vegetables they grow. But after a while, Tiny starts to think the group is a bit distracted. Can you figure out what everyone needs to feel better while reading this fun story about life on a farm?

The Snack Time Band is the storybook for our “Music and Sound” box.

Dutch’s whole class is abuzz at ATK Preschool when he realizes his crackers make a very big crunch, sounding almost like the drums! Everyone discovers their snacks make different sounds, and pretty soon they form The Snack Time Band. But Dutch and Sizzle want to play the same instrument. See how they use their words to express their feelings, solve this conflict, and make some awesome snacktime music together!

Counting on Quartney is the storybook for our “Counting” box.

Quartney can’t wait for ATK Preschool’s field trip to a bakery! But she feels disappointed when the pie she bakes doesn’t turn out quite how she imagined. With the help of Chegg the baker, Ms. Mitsy reminds Quartney that learning something new takes practice and that sometimes our failures still taste delicious. Don’t forget to complete Ms. Mitsy’s scavenger hunt at the end of the story!
